Role description
We're seeking two dedicated and politically astute Political Researchers to strengthen our understanding of the UK’s political environment and generate high-quality research that informs Labour Together’s strategic work. Reporting to the Director of Political Strategy, these roles involves comprehensive desk research, analysing activity across significant political actors, and producing clear, actionable insights for use across the organisation.
Responsibilities
Conduct in-depth desk research into political developments, organisational structures, public statements, and strategic activity across key political actors
Monitor and review political speeches, press releases, policy documents, media coverage, and track the activity, positioning, and movements of other political parties
Analyse publicly available data, filings, interviews, and other source material to map political positions and trends
Produce high-quality written briefings, background notes, and research summaries for internal teams and senior stakeholders
Support the strategy and communications teams by supplying timely insights that inform campaigns, messaging, and organisational planning
Maintain well-organised research archives, ensuring information is accessible, up to date, and rigorously sourced
Essential Skills Required
Demonstrated experience in a political role, journalism, or a related desk-based research role
Strong analytical ability and confidence working with multiple types of source material
Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, accurate, and engaging briefings
Solid understanding of UK politics, political actors, and current political dynamics
Ability to work efficiently under pressure and handle multiple deadlines
Strong political judgement and an ability to identify significant developments or strategic implications
Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
Experience conducting qualitative research, including media review and document analysis
Desirable Skills
Experience working in political campaigns, think tanks, research units, parliamentary offices or journalism
Familiarity with research databases, monitoring tools, and information-gathering platforms
A collaborative and proactive working style, with the ability to build strong relationships across teams
Comfort working independently and taking initiative in identifying new lines of enquiry
